A truly good model takes a very long time from design and development to prototype, then to validation testing, finalization, small batch production, and finally official product sales—usually several years or even longer. For example, the famous Japanese brand Shimadzu took seven to eight years to develop the AGX-V series electronic universal testing machine. It requires the cooperation of multidisciplinary composite talents and a lot of practical application knowledge and experience. As mentioned above, it involves materials science, mechanical processing, automatic control, software, various industry testing standards, testing processes, sample handling and processing, etc. After the product is released, it must undergo validation and trial use by customers in different industries, with continuous modifications and improvements in structure, functions, control, and data processing based on feedback. Without industry knowledge and rich experience accumulation, it is very difficult to complete the full development of a good model.
Secondly, it is very difficult for testing machine products to achieve large-scale production. Users are distributed across different industries, each with different product requirements. Generally, most production is made-to-order, belonging to relatively labor-intensive enterprises, which are indeed unsuitable for large-scale production. Therefore, costs are hard to reduce, and sales costs are extremely high. Thus, the testing machine industry is not an industry for making quick or big money. Customers with sufficient funds who want high-end products only consider buying imported products, while those with limited budgets and lower requirements can only consider domestic products. There are many domestic brand manufacturers, often leading to vicious price competition. Since performance and quality are basically similar, who becomes the lucky one is not simply determined by product quality itself.
Additionally, testing machines themselves have many types of accessories, especially in recent years with a large increase in component testing. However, the increase in accessories mainly means more categories, and the production volume of each accessory for a manufacturer does not significantly increase. Sometimes only one or two pieces of a certain accessory are produced, with various costs very high, and the processes complicated and troublesome, making it difficult to ensure product quality. In recent years, many small factories producing accessories for main machine manufacturers have emerged, offering low prices but uneven quality and specifications (somewhat similar to the situation of auto parts factories years ago). This results in a single piece of equipment being assembled from multiple channels, making it quite difficult to ensure the overall performance stability and long-term reliability of the instrument delivered to customers.
Moreover, new problems often arise with sold products. Testing objects are becoming increasingly complex, so special fixture requirements keep increasing, testing standards change rapidly, and operators are not fixed, leading to frequent usage faults and other issues. Based on the above reasons, domestic testing machine manufacturers indeed find it very difficult to develop and grow, let alone reach international advanced levels. These are far beyond what Chinese instrument companies can currently achieve. Even if some imitation or partial problem-solving is done, it is still far from reaching the level of a mature product.
Starting in a good environment, sticking to one's original intention, we believe that Chinese instrument companies will accelerate development. Especially with the country's emphasis, the entry of truly high-quality talents, and gradual acceptance in the high-end market, these improvements in the overall environment will also benefit our testing machine industry, which will surely catch up with the world level in the future. The goal pursued by us in the testing machine field will definitely be realized: to enable domestic companies to use world-class quality testing machine products at prices far lower than imported products, allowing these machines to contribute to enterprise progress, national development, and strength.
